4. Exo Terra Glass Natural Terrarium Kit

Our rating: 6 / 10

Exo Terra Glass Natural Terrarium Kit

Pros:

  • It is easy to clean and maintain
  • The glass is very clear to give a nice view of your pet
  • The screen bottom provides ventilation
  • It includes everything you need for setting it up

Cons:

  • The lid is not very secure
  • The glass could break

The item includes a glass aquarium, screen, flat bottom, water bowl, water pump, thermometer, and lighting. The lighting works great, and it has an adapter at the top of the tank to plug it in. It also includes a filter that helps to keep the water clean.

The screen bottom has a solid substrate to keep the pet off of the bottom where water can collect. The screen helps with excess water to drain without having to manually remove and empty the tank.

Although the tank is made of glass, it is not entirely shatter-proof. This means that you have to use extra care when filling it with water. The sealant between the lid and the glass enclosure is not strong enough either. You should not let your pet jump on the lid as it may cause you to lose control and a meltdown to occur.

6. Exo Terra Mini Fogger

Our rating: 5 / 10

Exo Terra Mini Fogger

Pros:

  • Very easy to use
  • Small and compact
  • The lowest water-flow rate on the market
  • Comes from a well known brand
  • Great bang for your buck
  • Compact design

The Exo Terra Misting System is a small unit which can be used for vivariums and terrariums. It has a low flow rate of 1.2 GPH and will provide 50-70 mists per hour based on the pressure you set with the water pump. The nozzle comes with a clip on the end of it so you can you can make the mist smaller and more efficient for smaller areas

Another big pro on this system (which makes it a good fit for terrariums) is that it operates on very low water pressure. This doesn’t have the negative side effect of the low water pressure of not being able to spray a large area. So, you can turn it up a little bit and it will spray a larger area as long as you have an adequate water pressure.

This is a great system to begin with if you are using a reptile and they are too cold and don’t want to come out of hiding. It also gives the turtle or tortoise a tool they can use to cool themselves in their environment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the best reptile misting system?

Misting systems are often most commonly used in reptile habitats, but they can be beneficial and even a necessity for a wide range of pets. By spraying, hydrating your pets, you can help relieve the symptoms of ailments, provide nutrients, and improve the overall health of your animal.

When shopping for a misting system for your pet, there are a few things to look for. First, many of the misting devices are designed for either cage or aquarium use, so make sure you understand which you need. Second, there are different buying options for different purposes. If you're a beginner, a basic model is probably the best choice for your pet, but advanced owners may want to buy a more advanced unit.

What is the best misting system?

A misting system can be one of the best investments you can make. A misting system is capable of increasing the humidity levels within your Reptile environment by up to 200%. This will aid significantly in maintaining a healthy habitat for your reptiles. A misting system can be used with both a natural and vivarium set up as long as your housing is allowing for it.

This system is the most cost effective way of adding humidity to your reptiles environment. It is capable of delivering a constant supply of water vapor to an enclosed environment via a small pump. It is able to do this to the point where there is a fine mist present within the enclosure.

How much pressure should be in a misting system?

Misting systems for herp habitats can range in pressure from around 40 psi to 80 psi (or more). Determining the correct pressure for a misting system requires balancing the flow rate with the correct pressure.

The pressure in a misting system is limited by the nozzles being used. Nozzle manufacturers recommend a maximum operating pressure. Beyond that, the nozzle can be damaged causing leaks.

While you would think that the higher the pressure, the more mist, this is not true. At a certain point, a higher pressure will actually cause a decrease in the amount of mist being delivered. At this point, the pressure is so high that the water is being forced through the nozzle too quickly, rather than being forced through it more slowly and producing a fine mist.

What is the difference between misting and fogging?

In its most basic form, misting is fogging, but with a slight difference in consistency of droplets.

Misting is light and can evaporate quickly and fogging is thicker and typically stickier to surfaces.

A misting system requires a source of water (usually a sprinkler or a hose) and a way to convert that water into a mist. Machines that are specifically designed to turn water into a mist are called misting systems.

Unlike fogging systems, misting systems often employ some kind of heat exchanger. This means that used water is not typically added to the primary water supply or tank unless specifically designed to do so.

Conclusion

Today’s market is full of versatile, compact, and highly affordable misting systems ideal for use in various sizes of reptile terrariums. Introduced a decade ago, they have since become a favorite of reptile keepers for the simple reason that they are so effective.

With a misting system, your reptile gets all the fresh water it needs, especially in desert terrariums where the sunlight may not always be strong enough for them to drink from water bowls. They also help to keep the terrarium environment comfortable. You won’t have to worry about the humidity and temperature levels in your reptile’s enclosure anymore.
